Over the past five years, Berkeley has led the nation in awarding the highest numbers of doctorates to students who are historically underrepresented in graduate education. In 
addition to our Graduate Diversity Program, we are the first major research university to establish diversity directors in our academic departments. Their proven, discipline-specific outreach and retention efforts continue to help increase graduate opportunities for historically underrepresented students at Berkeley.
