PRIMARY RESOURCES

  • Emergency Response and Evacuation: Each campus building has a Building Emergency Plan that includes provisions for people with disabilities. Persons who may have difficulty during an emergency are encouraged to contact the Building Coordinators of frequently used buildings. To learn the name of the Building Coordinator for a specific building, please call 642-9036 (voice only). The Office of Emergency Preparedness provides guidelines for people with disabilities.
  • Campus Access Guide: This web and downloadable PDF guide provides comprehensive information about physical access to the campus and policies and procedures related to full participation in campus activities.
  • Access Problems: Use this link to report a physical access barrier.
  • Accommodations for Public Events: Disability Access Services provides information and assistance to the campus community and individuals with disabilities who require access to participate in University-sponsored non-course related programs or activities.   • Campus Committee for Removal of Architectural Barriers: (CCRAB) reviews new construction projects and remodeling of campus facilities and buildings related to physical access and acts as a resource to address architectural and landscape path of travel and access issues.   • Fitness and Sports Opportunities: Cal STAR (Sports, Training, And Recreation) is a fitness program for disabled individuals through the Department of Recreational Sports. The program offers a discounted membership to Rec Sports and access to many programs including a free volunteer for assistance (when available) during your workouts. Cal STAR is designed to integrate students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members who have individual needs or requirements into existing recreational programs including instructional classes, group exercise, Cal Adventures outdoor recreation, Sports Clubs, Intramural Sports, and Martial Arts. PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION

  • Campus Transportation: The Loop provides intra-campus transportation for those with mobility impairments. Schedule, route, and stops can be found on the website.

 

TECHNOLOGY AND VISION

 

  • Providing Access to Technology: Making technology accessible to all is an essential part of upholding Academic Compliance and Disability standards.
  • Webnet is a voluntary organization for University of California, Berkeley affiliates to discuss World-Wide Web related issues. To participate in discussions about web accessibility, join Webnet.

  • Library Services for those with Disabilities: This website includes information to assist people with physical and learning disabilities in accessing the Library's collections, including online help with research questions, Proxy Borrowing, Assistive Technologies, Text Telephone Communications, and Library Contacts for Disabled Users.   • School of Optometry: Complete vision care is offered, including special clinics for visual impairments, such as the Low Vision and Special Visual Assessments Clinics. Visual aspects of campus life are assessed and supported through specialty clinics such as Binocular Vision and Vision Functions as well as with primary vision care. Students receive a SHIP discount of 50% on general comprehensive eye exams.   • Disabled Students’ Program: DSP provides academic accommodations to eligible students with disabilities to ensure equal access to educational opportunities. 260 César Chávez Student Center. Voice: (510) 642-0518. TTY: (510) 642-6376. FAX: (510) 643-9686
  • Disabled Students’ Residence Program (DSRP): DSRP provides an assisted living environment in a campus residence hall for students with physical disabilities.
  • Disabled Students Union (DSU): DSU is a student-run organization which advocates for students with disabilities.
  • Disability Studies: The College of Letters and Science offers a disability studies minor for undergraduates. The Disability Studies Library is available to faculty, students, and the public by appointment.
